Children's Ministry

Children’s Ministry at Northern Hills is for children who are newborn through 5th grade.  Our staff and volunteers are passionate about helping children understand the love of Christ through age-appropriate lessons, play, and music.  Children’s Ministry includes everything from rocking babies in the nursery to a mission week for 5th graders, VBS, and everything in between.  It’s a busy, but meaningful ministry, and we’d love to partner with you in raising your kids to know Christ!

Due to COVID and social distancing restrictions, all Children's Sunday school classes are being held via YouTube.
Information is below.

Sunday Mornings

On Sunday mornings, our nursery is a busy place.  It is full of loving staff, and volunteers are ready to care for your little one(s) while you participate in worship and/or Sunday School class.

Our nursery, for infants and toddlers, is open from 8:30 a.m. - noon and is located in the Children’s Hallway.  Each classroom has sign-in and sign-out procedures, including pagers.  We look forward to taking care of your youngest family member(s) while they play and learn about God!

Please bring diapers, bottles, pacifiers, or other soothing items.  Be sure that all items are clearly labeled with your child's name.  Age-appropriate snacks are provided.

Children's Hallway, Rooms 1 & 2

On Sunday mornings, our pre-schoolers (2-4 year olds) can go to the nursery if they are here during the 8:30 a.m. service.  We also have pre-school Sunday School classes at 9:45 and 11:00 a.m.  The children participate in a hands-on Bible lesson, do a craft, have a snack, and sometimes play on the playground.  Your pre-schooler will learn about God’s love while having fun!

Children's Hallway, Rooms 3-7

Elementary Sunday School
9:45 a.m. and/or 11:00 a.m.

Elementary Sunday School is for kindergartners through 5th grade and is available at 9:45 and 11:00 a.m.  The curriculum is the same for both hours.  Children are encouraged to attend one of our worship services with their family and participate in Children's Moment.  After Children's Moment, children are escorted to Sunday School or may go back to sit with their families.  We welcome all children to Sunday School.

Kinder Kids - Children's Hall, Room 8
Kindergartners will spend their Sunday mornings with loving teachers and volunteers and will learn of God's love and care in their everyday lives.  Bible lessons, songs, and prayer will keep them actively learning and playing for one or two hours on Sunday mornings.

1st-3rd Grade - Children's Hall, Room 10
1st-3rd graders are invited to join us for Elevate Kids!  As a group, we sing, learn Bible verse and Bible stories, give offering and pray.  Then we join our small group to learn how to use our Bibles by studying God's word.  Every 8 weeks, we have a new theme.  Join us for all of our adventures as we learn about living a life for God!  Bring a friend and your Bible!

4th & 5th Grade - Children's Hall, Room 12
Each week the 4th and 5th graders will be learning to own their faith as they dig deep into God's word to answer their toughest questions.  Through Bible stories, activities, discussions, and video, they will "grapple" together to discover God's truth.  Come join the fun and bring your Bible!

Children's Moment

Children's Moment takes place during each of the morning worship services.  Children are welcome to join their parents in church for the beginning of the service and then are invited to Children's Moment.  They can then go to Sunday School or back to join their parents for the remainder of the service.  Adult staff and volunteers lead the kids to Sunday School after Children's Moment.

Children's Bulletin

There are children's bulletins for your child, so that they can follow along with the service.  You will find them at the back of the Worship Center or Sanctuary.  Don't forget to grab a bag of coloring pencils for the picture on the back of the bulletin.

Come early

Don't be stressed about making it to service on time!  Be sure to come early to give yourself plenty of time to meet the team, drop your kids off, and grab a cup of coffee before heading into the Worship Center or Sanctuary.

How do you screen teachers/volunteers in Children's Ministry?

All Children's Ministry staff and volunteers have background checks.  Volunteers also attend Safe Gatherings training, that is mandated and run by the conference.
