Fulfilling Stories - All-In

(Kalas book 2, chapter 6)  On one level, this parable is about risk. God’s kingdom is not for those who play it safe or settle for “just ok.”  However, it is also about uncompromising focus.  It means that we know our priorities so clearly that even if we must give up everything else for God’s kingdom, we know it’s worth it. 

For teachers and students preparing to go back to school (after a veeery long absence), we need to focus on priorities and what really matters.  There will be challenges, there will surely be struggles of motivation as we have gotten used to less structured environments.  But ultimately, we need to “keep the main thing the main thing,” and that is God’s kingdom.  That will sustain us in the inevitable challenges of re-integration that we face. Keep the main thing the main thing.  Homework is more bearable if we know that we are doing it for God’s glory.  The stress of teaching becomes more bearable if we know that it is serving God’s purposes in various ways.  Whatever it takes to live into God’s kingdom, it is worth it.
